Bromley's first viticultural enterprise and London's first proposed hydrogen powered house. As we embark on the next chapter of Home Farm’s evolution, we have designed a new masterplan which provides a platform for the vineyard, rationalises the existing buildings and proposes the delivery of one of the most sustainable new homes built in London. Here are the basics:
For the past few years we have been busy preparing the land and optimising the soil conditions. In May 2023 we planted c.12,000 vines across 5 grape varieties as shown on the masterplan.
We are working in partnership with a London-based wine producer. Our ambition is to create truly ‘London’ product, grown and produced in the capital. Please sign-up for updates (see below).
The public right of way is highlighted in red on the plan. We are happy for you to use the alternative route highlighted in blue. Please be mindful of the operational farm machinery and keep dogs on a lead.
Due to shading and presence of the footpath the southernmost area was not viable to grow vines. As part of the proposed masterplan we intend to plant a fruit orchard and provide and maintain a landscaped picnic spot for public use in this area.
As part of the proposed masterplan, we are intending to create vine house which would be one of the most sustainable new homes ever built in London. Vine house will utilise a solar array to produce green hydrogen which will be stored as an energy source. During conditions where solar alone is insufficient to power the house, the green hydrogen will pass through a fuel cell to generate electricity. The only waste product to this process is pure water. This pioneering technology has the capability to be rolled-out in similar locations nationwide to reduce dependency on fossil fuels and combat climate change.
